Hopfenweisse Signature Series

Hopfenweisse Signature Series from Les Trois Mousquetaires.

Colour: cloudy golden

Aroma: hoppy, banana

Taste: smooth lightly hoppy, orange, banana, lemon(?)

ABV: 6%

Overall like it a lot. Just the right hoppiness. A definite buy again for me, if I can find it.

Dieu du Ciel Rosée Hibiscus

A different one for me... Dieu du Ciel Rosée Hibiscus.

Colour: cloudy dark pink

Aroma: fruity floral

Taste: lightly sweet and fruity with a hint of bitter

ABV: 5.9%

Overall... I was surprised. It's described as "spiced strong beer with hibiscus" but I didn't expect this taste. It's very refreshing. Looks more like a fruit beer though.

Hop Head Black IPA

Tree Brewing Co's Hop Head Black IPA.

Colour: dark brown with light brown head decent lacing

Aroma: hoppy chocolaty coffee

Taste: hops and chocolate

ABV: 8.2%

Overall: Ranks as a treat beer for me mostly due to the high ABV.

King Heffy

Picked up a while ago and didn't post until now: Howe Sound King Heffy. I looooove Hefeweizen. :)

Colour: cloudy amber. The head appears unexpectedly as you pour. Even if you pour carefully.

Aroma: banana... Vanilla... Sweet...

Taste: lightly sweet and banana lightly carbonated

ABV: 7.7%

Overall: If you've read anything else on here you can guess that I liked it. The ABV is killer though. Loved the fact that this bottle was 1 litre. It was also cool that it was bottle capped but also included the swing top to reclose it.

Byward Brown

Another fine beer from Big RigByward Brown.

Color: brown. Resembles Coca Cola

Aroma: coffee

Taste: chocolate coffee

ABV: 5.2%

Overall: Love it. It's a rather light beer. Smooth. Not creamy heavy.

Festivale

A new one from Beau's: Festivale.

Color: clear red

Aroma: hoppy sweet

Taste: lightly hoppy creamy smooth

ABV: 4.7%

Overall: Had this before and decided to try it again. A nice session beer. My wife wasn't a fan but I am.

Miami Weiss

Miami Weiss by Great Lakes Brewery! Love the name.

Colour: cloudy orange

Aroma: hoppy grapefruity

Taste: hoppy and smooth

ABV: 4.5%

Overall: Good. Similar to Shawinigan Handshake without the banana. Grapefruity. Liked it. Would buy again.

St. Ambroise Apricot Wheat Ale

My second apricot beer... St. Ambroise Apricot Wheat Ale.

Colour: Clear golden

Aroma: Apricots

Taste: A crisp, light apricot taste with a very slight bitter finnish.

ABV: 5%

Overall: A nice, refreshing summer beer. I've seen this one at the beer store for some time and after tasting the Okanagan Spring Summer Weizen, I had to try it. It's not as "fruity" as the Okanagan and a tad more bitter.

Beau's Abbey Style Cheese

I spotted a Tweet yesterday about beer-washed cheese for sale at Farm Boy — Beau's Abbey Style Cheese, to be more specific. I like cheese and I love Beau's beers, so how could I go wrong?

I txt'd my wife to see if she could pick some up on the way home, and she did.

I didn't expect it to be cheap cheese, but it was definitely a little more pricey than I expected.

A couple of hours after dinner, I decided to try some with naan crisps. The first thing I noticed was the aroma. A typical stinky cheese smell. This lead me to expect a slightly strong taste. I wasn't strong tasting at all. It definitely has a cheese taste, but it was actually quite mild.

I ate about half of it, and while I enjoyed it, I can't see us buying any more of it at the price point it sells at. I'm thinking of perhaps slicing some of what's left and putting it on a toasted ham sandwich. I wonder if that might bring out more flavour. :)

Prison Break

I've been looking for this one for a while and finally found it at the LCBO on Friday: Double Trouble Brewing Co's Prison Break.

Colour: Clear golden (looks more orange in the pic)

Aroma: Hops... a little fruity and grassy?

Taste: Lightly hoppy... lightly carbonated... smooth.

ABV: 5%

Overall: A win and a definite repurchase in the future. My wife even enjoyed it.

Lake of Bays River Walker

A new Friday find at the LCBO: Lake of Bays River Walker Summer Ale.

Aroma: lightly hoppy with some kind of spice

Colour: golden orange

Taste: lightly citrus/grapefruity

ABV: 6%

Overall: Another winner for me. It's a very easy drinking beer.

Big Rig Hefe

I checked out all of the beers listed on the Big Rig web site Thursday afternoon to figure out which beers I have yet to try and txt msg'd my wife a short list of potential Thursday night treats. Hefe was the first on my list and that's what she picked up. It's a seasonal beer.

They describe it as...
This classic German Wheat beer is light and filled with history. The specialized yeast delivers flavours of vanilla, clove and mild banana making this naturally hazy brew a true classic.
That's pretty much what it delivers.

Colour: Almost clear golden. One if the header beers I've had from Big Rig too.

Aroma: Banana and vanilla

Taste: Light banana

ABV: 4.8

Overall: I love it. I love wheat beers to begin with, but this was really tasty. I found it a little light compared to some, and not as fruity. I could easily polish off a couple of growlers of this. :)

As one who was a little(?) late to the craft beer scene, I haven't tried many in that list. :(

Dominus Vobiscum Reserve

A very plain looking bottle. The name intrigued me. A close friend told me that it translates to: The Lord be with you. Definitely an interesting name for a beer. :)

Dominus Vobiscum Reserve by Microbrasserie Charlevoix.

Colour: Golden cloudy with a large creamy head and nice lacing. I swear you could use a spoon to eat it.

Aroma: Lightly sweet. Malty. Smells like a blonde or Belgian?

Taste: I'm not sure if it's a blonde but it tasted like one. I think. With a hoppy edge.

ABV: 6%

Overall: I loved it. I loved the aroma. If there was a woman's perfume with this scent, I'd be in heaven. :) One of my favs of the weekend.

Thornbridge Kipling South Pacific Ale

And with this half-assed review, I am caught up to this weekend.

Thornbridge Kipling South Pacific Ale

Colour: golden slightly cloudy

Aroma: grassy hops light citrus

Taste: for me a perfect citrus bitterness. I really enjoyed this. Felt a little "thick" though.

ABV: 5.2%

Overall: I'd buy it again. It came in a 500ml bottle which was perfect for the glass I drank it from. Can't go wrong with that. :)

Mort Subite Kriek & Framboise

Two Mort Subite lambic beers we picked up weeks ago:

Kriek (Cherry)

Colour: clear cherry red. When I popped the cork, there didn't appear to be a lot of pressure but it foamed out of the bottle quite a lot.

Aroma: light cherry

Taste: A tart cherry soda.

ABV: 4.5%

Overall: I liked it, but it's pretty far from what I'd consider a beer. I think it would be extremely refreshing on a hot summer day.

Framboise (Raspberry)

Colour: Clear raspberry red(?)

Aroma: light raspberry

Taste: raspberry! A little tart with a dry finish.

ABV: 4.5%

Overall: Pretty much the same opinion as the cherry. For some reason the raspberry was about 40-50 cents more than the cherry. My wife and I both liked the cherry better.

A humorous note... if you run the name through Google Translator, it means: Sudden Death.

Duvel

Another long-time prospect at the LCBO that I finally gave into: Duvel

Color: cloudy golden

Aroma: biscuity orange?

Taste: lightly bitter slightly citrus refreshing

ABV: 8.5%

Overall enjoyed. Found it a little more refreshing than other similar beers. And a little more bitter. 8.5% makes it a treat.

Creemore Springs Kellerbier

I've seen this Creemore Springs 6-pack at the LCBO for quite some time. I finally succumbed to temptation and picked it up. It was a good choice.

First up.. Kellerbier.

An intersting story from the can:
Kellerbier is an unfiltered, medieval German lager known for its naturally cloudy appearance. Served straight from the brewmaster's cellar, it was a true honour for special guests visiting a brewery to be offered a taste. These days we happily make it available to one and all. Our Kellerbier is wonderfully aromatic with a hint of citrus and spice imparted by German whole leaf hops. Not a lot of breweries make Kellerbier, but then we've always done things a little differently.
Colour: cloudy amber

Aroma: grassy hops

Taste: slightly bitter, smooth, citrus

ABV: 5%

Overall: A pretty good beer that I'd buy again.

1516

Another from the Okanagen Spring 6-pack sampler: 1516

Colour: gold

Aroma: I'm thinking grassy

Taste: grassy?

ABV: 5%

Overall: A good beer. Easy drinking. Love the labels on these beers. Color scale, story and serving temp. Unfortunately, I didn't take note of the story before returning the empties last weekend. :(

Okanagan Spring Summer Weizen

This one came as part of a "craft" sampler 6-pack pack. I think I'm missing a review for one of them.. anyway, Okanagan Spring Summer Weizen:

Colour: cloudy orange

Aroma: apricots

Taste: apricots.

ABV: 5%

Overall: I really enjoyed this. I've seen another apricot beer at the beer store a few times but been hesitant to buy it thinking of light be a little too fruity but this is pretty damn good. This is a BBQ beer IMHO. :)

Oatmeal Stout

Samuel Smith Old Brewery Oatmeal Stout

Colour: dark brown

Aroma: chocolate

Taste: smooth dark chocolate with slight bitter finish

ABV: 5%

Overall: I enjoyed it. One of the better chocolate brews I've tried.

Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier

One of my favourite types of beer: Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier.

Colour: cloudy orange

Aroma: honey wheat

Taste: Reminds me of most wheat beers but creamier smooth

ABV: 5.4%

Overall: Enjoyed. A little more orange colour than Hoegaarden but similar tasting.

Rideau Red

I believe this is a regular at Big Rig: Rideau Red.

Colours: clear reddish amber

Aroma: light hoppy sweet

Taste: smooth. So smooth. Very light caramel

ABV: 5.2%

Overall... a very nice, smooth drinking beer.

Black Creek Stout

More catch-up posts... this one is a couple of weeks old: Black Creek Stout.

Colour: dark brown

Aroma: coffee? Malty? Hint of chocolate?

Taste: Mild coffee with chocolate. Light tasting. Light bitter finish.

ABV: 5%

Overall, I really enjoyed this one. An easy drinking stout and a definite repurchase.
